Antón Baamonde
(Vilalba, 1959)
He studied Philosophy at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He currently works as a secondary school philosophy teacher.
As essayist, he has published the books En favor da esperanza (Sada: Ediciós do Castro, 1987), O marxismo e as linguaxes (Vigo: Galaxia, 1988), Catro ensaios sobre a esquerda nacionalista, in collaboration with Xaquín Fernández Leiceaga, Rafael Martínez Castro & Bieito Iglesias (Santiago de Compostela: Sotelo Blanco, 1990), Sobre o tempo e outros desatinos (Vigo: Galaxia, 1990) and A rosa sen porqué (Vigo: Galaxia, 1997), the latter published in Spanish by Pre-Textos (Valencia, 2001). In Spanish he has also published El laberinto y sus salidas (Madrid: Tecnos, 1998) and La reinvención de España (Barcelona: Ronsel, 2001). His last book is Aire para respirar (Vigo: Xerais, 2002), a work between the personal memoir and the sociological and political essay about the recent past of Galicia.
He also contributed to the collective books Doce anos na búsqueda da nosa identidade, coordinated by Alfonso Blanco Torrado and Manuel López Rodríguez (Guitiriz: Asociación Cultural Xermolos, 1991); Las palabras de la tribu: escritura y habla (Madrid: Cátedra/Ministerio de Cultura, 1993); El sentido de la historia en el futuro: ciclo de conferencias. He is a regular contributor to the Galician press, both in newspapers (A Nosa Terra, Diario de Galicia, La Voz de Galicia, La Opinión de A Coruña) and magazines, such as Agália, Ferrol Análisis, Grial, Luzes de Galiza, Obradoiro and Tempos Novos. He was a member of the editorial council of the Forum "Luzes de Galiza", he wrote the manifestos made public in that forum.
He has given lectures at the Universties of Santiago de Compostela, Barcelona, Oviedo, Oxford, Varsovia e Cracovia, and he has als oparticipated in the Verines meetings organised by Víctor García de la Concha —director of the RAE (Royal Spanish Laguage Academy—, in those organised by the Carlos Casares Foundation, as well as numerous seminars and congresses on diverse subjects.
He has organised many events and workshops through different institutions—Consello da Cultura Galega, COAG...— and he was one of the main promoters of the project by Edicións de Referencia for the publication of a new newspaper of Galician nationalist and progressivist nature.
Alexandre Alves Costa
(Porto, 1939)
Architecture graduated from the Superior School of Fine Arts, Porto (1966), he made practical training in the Civil Engineering Lab in Oporto with Nuno Portas. Chair Professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Porto. Teacher in the departments of Project and History. Guest lecturer at the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra and director of the Course of Architecture of the University of Minho, he also organise workshops in the areas of planinng and urban design, at the Universitiy of Coimbra, the Autonomus University of Lisbon and the Malaga Architects Asssociation.
He has participated in seminars, courses and round tables and has given lectures all around the world. He was an adviser of the Portuguese official delegation in the UN Conferenece on Human Settlements, "Habitat" (Vancouver, Canadá, 1976).
His works has been constructed since 1970, alone or with Sergio Fernández, almost all published; he has won several prizes for them, for example the National Architecture Prize 1993. He is member of the editorial councils of the Boletim of the University of Porto, the magazine Monumentos published by the DGEM (Portuguese Buildings and Monuments Directorate) and the Magazine Jornal from the architects of the Ordem dos Arquitectos (Association of Architects of Portugal). He is also a scientific coordinator of the editorial service of the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra.
He has published the books Introdução ao estudo da história da arquitectura portuguesa e outros textos (Porto: FAUP, 1995) and Cities By The Sea (Rotterdam: Jan de Graaf, 1997), and he has articles published in magazines such as Architecti, A Plus, A&V Monografias, Casabella, Domus, Lotus International, Wonen TABK, Estudos/Património and 9H. He has also written for exhibition catalogues and volumes such as Álvaro Siza: Professione poetica (Milán: Edizioni Electa, 1986), Álvaro Siza: figures and configurations. Buildings and projects 1986-1988 (Nova York: Rizzoli/Harvard University Graduate School of Design, 1988),and Moderno Escondido (Porto: FAUP, 1997). The Ordem dos Arquitectos published a monograph on him in 2005.
José Manuel Gallego Jorreto
(O Carballiño, 1936)
He studied at the Superior School of Architecture, Madrid, where he graduated in 1963, obtaining also his PhD at the same Faculty in 1968. Thanks to a scholarship, he went to Norway to work with Erlin Viksjo. He worked in the studio of the architect Alejandro de la Sota. Between 1969 and 1970 he was a scholar at the Cours des Techniques d’Urbanisme from the ASTEF in París. Since 1967 he has lived and woked in A Coruña. He has a chair at the Department of Projects of the Superior School of Architecture, University of A Coruña.
Among his work constructed we can highlight the House in Corrubedo, A Coruña (1969), the House El Pinar (Oleiros, A Coruña, 1977), the Museum of Sacred Art of the Saint Mary Colegiate Church (A Coruña, 1982 – 1987), the Research Institutes in Santiago de Compostela (1992 – 2000), the Covered Swimming Pool in Chantada (1998 – 2002) and the Presidential Facilities in Santiago (2000 – 2002)
He won the Galicia Architecture Prize (Ourense) in 1983, the 1st edition of the Julio Galán Memorial Award from the Associations of Architects of León, Asturias and Galicia for his Museum of Sacred Art in 1991. For his Museum of Fine Arts in A Coruña, he was awarded in the VI Bienal de Arquitectura Española, the VII COAG Architecture Awards (1st prize in the Completely New Buildings Category), the Award "Dragados y Construcciones de Arquitectura Española" from the CEOE Foundation (1995) and the National Spanish Architecture Prize, awarded by the CSAE (Superior Council of the Spanish Architects) in 1997. Besides these awards, he has received the Galician Critics Award and the Castelao Medal –awarded by the Galician Regional Government– among others.
He has given lectures, courses and talks in international schools and universities. He has been member of the jury in internatonal contests and has participated in exhibitions all over the world. His professional works hasve been published by several publishing houses and in perdiodical publications worldwide, such as A&V Monografías, Arquitectura Viva, Bauwelt, Croquis, Dársena, Deutsche Bauzeitschrift, Obradoiro and On Diseño.

Rubén C. Lois González
(Palas de Rei, 1961)
Senior Lecturer and ex-dean of the Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Santiago. He currently is in charge of the Directorate of Tourism of the Galician Government. He has been a guest lecturer at the Universities of Le Mans, Caene Touluse-Le Mirail (France) e Bergen (Norway). He is a member of the group "Monitoring Cities of Tomorrow", from the International Geographical Union (IGU).
He is co-author of works such as Diccionario de Geografía Urbana, Urbanismo e Ordenación Territorial, written with Florencio Zoido Naranjo and Rafael Mas (Barcelona: Ariel, 2000), and Enciclopedia of the City (London: Routledge, 2004).

Xerardo Pereiro
(Palas de Rei, 1968)
Graduated in Geography an History from the Uviersity of Santiago de Compostela in 1991. In 1997 he otained his degree of Social Anthropology "European PhD" from the University of Santiago de Compostela. Visiting Researcher at the University of Milan, University of Edinburgh (Department of Anthropology) and the ISCTE of Lisboa (Superior Institute of Labour and Business Studies, at the Department of Anthropology). He worked teaching anthropology for the Fernando Pessoa University (Porto) and currently he is a Senior Lecturer in the same subject at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, and Coordinator of the Degree Course on Applied Anthropology and Development.
He was awarded the 1st Vicente Risco Prize on Anthropology and Social Studies in 1994, as well as the 1st Irmandinhos Prize for Galician Historical, Sociological and Ethnographic Research, in 1996.

He was coordinator, of the book Para unha antropoloxía de urxencia. Teresa Táboas
(Mexico DF, 1961)
Architecture PhD from the Superior School of Architecture of A Coruña with her doctoral thesis, directed by César Portela Fernández-Jardón and entitled «A cor na arquitectura» (Colour in Achitecture). She collaborated in the studio of the Architect Cesar Portela Fernández-Jardón for six years. She worked at the Marín City Council (Pontevedra) as a municipal architect for two years. In 1990 she founded her own architecture company, where she developed numerous construction and urbanisation projects.
She was president of the local office of the Official Association of Architects of Galicia in Pontevedra from 1999 to 2003, whre she was elected dean-president of the whole entity, becoming the 1st woman to ever reach that position since the foundation of the institution. As dean of this association, she is named councillor of the Official Association of Spanish Architects, being the 2nd woman ever holding that charge since the foundation of the institution in 1931. Later, she was named representative of this association in the ACE (Architects Council of Europe, settled in Brussels) in the occassion of several supporting commissions of the European Parliament—«Taskforce for Urban Issues», «Taskforce for Environment and Sustenaible Architecture»—. Since 2005, she is Councillor of Housing and Land in the Galician Regional Govrnment.
She has published El color en arquitectura (Sada: Ediciós do Castro, 1991), Emigración y arquitectura (Pontevedra: Deputación Provincial, 1999) and Emigración y arquitectura: os brasileiros (Os Tilos-Teo: Alais Editores, 2004). She regularly contributes to specialised maagzines and press with her articles.
She won the contest for buildind 27 government subsidied houses in Pereiro de Aguiar (Ourense) and also won the contest for a Mall in the same muncipality. Also in Pereiro de Aguiar, she was the first runner up in the contest for a Kindergarten. She obtained the first prize in the contest for the enlargement of the Liceo Casino de Pontevedra; 2nd prize in the contestt fot the Social Studies Library at the campus of Santiago de Compostela,; the 1st prize in the contest for the Aquaculture Centre in Arousa Island and the 1st prize in the contest for the reshaping of the Barcelos square in Pontevedra. She has been a member of the jury in numerous architecture contests, among with we should remark the National Architecture Prize 2003.
She has given lectures in diverse institutions and universities: The Seminar on "Ibero-American Architecture" (Sevilla, organised by the Andalusian Regional Government), the Seminar on "Colour in Latin-American Architecture"; at the Institute of Technology of Galicia, also a Seminar on Colour in Architecture; at the School of Architecture of San Sebastian (Basque Country) a seminar on "Luis Barragán's Architecture"; other seminars on "Colour in Architecture" at the School of Architecture of the Anáhuac University (Mexico) and in the VI World Congress on Colour, organised by the Colour World Society (1989), and finally at the Menéndez Pelayo International University, she has given the seminars "Boundaries of Historic Parts of Towns" in 1999 and "Seminar and Nature" in 2002. |
